Kia ora koutou,

I was born and bred in Ireland, completing my medical degree at Trinity college, Dublin in 2007, before coming to Aotearoa in 2008 to see some of this beautiful country and work at Nelson hospital - I never left! I have lived and worked in various parts of Aotearoa over the last 15 years and I had the privilege of becoming a very proud “Kiwi” in 2017.

I moved from traditional GP work to Telehealth in late 2022 with the aim of being able to deliver GP services to regions of Aotearoa that are struggling to recruit GPs. I am passionate about delivering equitable healthcare to all whanau in New Zealand, and I enjoy working with innovative practices such as Health Through the Marae to try to assist whanau on their individual journeys to achieving their optimal health.

I am a Registered Nurse currently employed at Health Through the Marae. I have a 10 year background in cardiology from being a nurse in the Coronary Care Unit at Auckland City Hospital, Cardiology Nurse Educator in the Middle East and now an Interventional Cardiology Nurse Specialist/ Nurse Prescriber also at Auckland City Hospital.

I have been with Health Through the Marae for approximately a year and have thoroughly enjoyed working pre-dominately with our Māori whānau, listening to their stories, previous health journeys and getting an understanding of their current health conditions and where myself and our team can make a difference to their whole hauora. I have also learnt in such a short time, that just listening to whānau can make all the difference in improving their healthcare journey. I look forward to meeting more of the whānau within the Rohe and making a difference, big or small.

I have been nursing for 20 years in a variety of settings including General Practice, Emergency, Inpatient Medical/Surgical, Mental Health and School Based Youth
Health.

I am currently studying to become a Community Nurse Prescriber. I have a passion for health and fitness and keep active through CrossFit and various team sports.

It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to work here at Health Through the Marae.  I enjoy working alongside Maaori of all ages and am determined to provide high quality, timely and accessible primary health care to whaanau in a comfortable environment. There is significant bias within healthcare and by learning from Maaori what their needs are, I hope together we will help achieve improved health outcomes.

No Ngaati te Ata ahau.

I was trained in the practice of mirimiri and rongoaa by my tuupuna at a very early age and continued that journey learning and practicing relaxation, reflexology, acupressure points and sports massage. I have been providing mirimiri to our people for over 45years.

Alongside Health Through the Marae I acknowledge the guiding principles and values of Ngaati Te Ata, of significance the principles of Kaitiakitanga and the Mauri of our natural and external environment.

Mauri is the life force present in all things living, it binds the physical and spiritual elements of all things.  Without Mauri things cannot survive.

Practices have been developed over many centuries to ensure the positive essence of one’s Mauri flourishes.  Observing these practices involves the ethic and exercise of Kaitiakitanga.

Kaitiakiatanga underpins everything that Ngaati Te Ata and Health Through the Marae strives to do and is inextricably linked to Tino Rangatiratanga, one’s self autonomy. Through whakawhiti koorero, hui, wananga we endeavour to share these things.

Kia Ora,

He uri tenei no Ngati Te Ata-Waiohua

I am a 35 year old father of 6 and have spent the year developing programmes to improve me and my whanau’s overall health and wellbeing based on these core values;

- Strength
- Diet
- Movement

As a byproduct of these values, I am currently in the best shape of my life and have lost over 35kgs. I am able to play social sports again 3 times a week and have significantly reduced the pain I have in my knees, lower back, elbows, and shoulders.

My whanau have also made some awesome health progressions and I am keen to share my knowledge and concepts with the Iwi.

I have a passion for developing Tikanga based podiatry.
“Tikanga is a lifestyle - it’s how we live, protocols passed down by our Tupuna to engage with the past and the future. One particular protocol I have for each patient is to kaupare their individual space integrity with whanaungatanga and encouragement. They will eventually accept their own hauora responsibility.
